Marsden Heights Community College strives to ensure that all students achieve their best attendance and punctuality.

We expect a very high standard of punctuality and expect all students to be in college for 8.35 am at form rooms by 8.40 am ready to register at 8.45 am.
If a student is going to be absent we expect some form of communication from a parent/carer before 9.30 am, when registers close.

With regards to medical appointments parents/carers should try to make all appointments outside college hours unless in an emergency. We aim for all students to achieve at least 96% attendance, missing as few sessions as possible – preferably none at all!

All parents/carers requesting any kind of leave during term time must contact the Attendance Officer and arrange an appointment to discuss this. The college does not encourage holidays as it is proven that attendance has a direct correlation with academic attainment; poor attendance does have a detrimental effect on learning.

We do work with parents/carers with regards to any emergency situations that arise with regards to leave of absence and the Head teacher will give due consideration to exceptional circumstances.

We feel that the key to success with attendance is to work with parents/carers. We welcome parents/carers to come into the college to meet with the relevant Head of Year to discuss any issues with regards to attendance/punctuality and to discuss any concerns they may have and together find supportive solutions to support the child and family.

We believe that all students who excel with regards to attendance should be rewarded. We implement a reward scheme including certificates and gift vouchers at the end of the college year and an award for each form in each year that has the highest attendance. Students who are unable to achieve 100% due to many different circumstances are also included in attendance rewards.

Our Flowers for Family initiative is a ‘thank you’ to families for supporting their child and the college in our quest for excellent attendance for all.
