Key Stage 3 – Years 7, 8 & 9
We recognise that our students will need support when transferring from their primary schools to join us at Marsden Heights. We have organised the curriculum, and the teachers who deliver it, in order to facilitate a smooth and fully supported transition. All of Year 7 are taught their Exploration and Expression subjects as a foundation curriculum delivered by a specialist team and in a discrete part of the site. The most able students are grouped together for their remaining lessons so that they can progress at a rate that matches their ability.
Throughout Key Stage 3 all students are taught the full entitlement curriculum.
Key Stage 4 – Years 10 & 11
All students follow the core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, PE and PHSCE (Personal health, social and citizenship education).
In addition, students are required to choose from a broad diet of subjects designed to cater for the needs of students across the full ability range. This range is further extended through our collaboration with local Colleges of Further education and other educational providers. The subjects offered constitute pathways of learning, which provide maximum opportunities for our students to achieve their potential, building on the strengths that have been identified throughout the first three years of their career at Marsden Heights.
